Research and Innovation Priorities to Transform Thailand’s Energy System

Prompted by the imperatives of climate change and sustainable growth, the global energy system is undergoing a profound transformation, that is, how energy is produced and consumed in the next 10 – 20 years very different from today. The rapid decrease in costs of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, widespread electrification, and accelerating advances in technological innovation all drive this transformation. What might Thailand’s energy system look like in this context and the appropriate technology pathways? And what should be the research and innovation priorities that would facilitate the transformation?
